We had the honor of hosting Dr. Shamsuddeen Usman, CON, OFR, former Minister of Finance, at ENGAUSA Global Tech Hub., alongside his delegation. His visit brought both encouragement and vision as he engaged directly with our students and reflected on the urgent needs of the North.
A Message to the Youth
During his interaction, Dr. Usman urged the students to take advantage of their youth and the opportunity they have been given to acquire life-changing skills.
He admonished them to stay away from destructive habits and instead focus on building meaningful and productive lives. His words carried the weight of experience, reminding the students that discipline, commitment, and skills are the foundations of future success.
Human Capital as the North’s Priority
Dr. Usman spoke candidly about the challenges facing Northern Nigeria: insecurity, the growing number of out-of-school children, and the weaponisation of politics. In the midst of these challenges, he stressed that the most critical need is the development of human capital. He noted that institutions like ENGAUSA are already reshaping the narrative, offering practical solutions and pathways to empowerment.
Exploring Partnerships for Greater Impact
Beyond words of encouragement, Dr. Usman initiated discussions on tangible ways to support ENGAUSA graduates. He highlighted opportunities to support ENGAUSA’s initiatives through community development organizations such as the Kano Peace and Development Initiative (KAPEDI), the Kano and Jigawa Professionals Forum (KJPF), the Gidauniyar Alheri Foundation, and a Microfinance Bank to support graduates with loans, along with other programs designed to expand collaboration with ENGAUSA. These efforts, he explained, would enable the Hub to reach even more students and extend its transformative impact
From Humble Beginnings to Transformative Growth
ENGAUSA’s CEO, Engr. Mustapha Habu Ringim, shared how the Hub grew from a single classroom of seven learners in 2019 to three training centers—two in Kano and one in Jigawa State. Today, over 7,000 individuals, including Almajiris, school dropouts, people with disabilities, and excluded women, have graduated. He noted that this progress reflects vision, persistence, community-driven innovation, and sustained grassroots impact.
Building the Future Through Skills and Inclusion
Dr. Usman’s visit reaffirmed ENGAUSA’s mission: to transform education by making it practical, inclusive, and accessible to all. With its unique multilingual, hands-on model, the Hub is breaking barriers and equipping young people with the skills they need to thrive in today’s world. The path to rebuilding the North — and Nigeria at large — lies in cultivating human capital, empowering communities, and ensuring that no young person is left behind.
