On October 2nd, 2025, the Founder and CEO of ENGAUSA Global Tech Hub, Engr. Mustapha Habu Ringim, was invited as the Guest Entrepreneur at a prestigious 5-day Intensive Capacity Building Workshop on the Operations of Modern Entrepreneurship Development Centres, held at the Benjamin Mosugu Hall, Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), Kaduna. Organised by Kadpoly Consults Nigeria Limited in collaboration with Ethical Compliance and Management Consults Limited, the workshop convened core staff of the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CED) and other key personnel of AFIT. The goal was to explore strategic ways to strengthen modern entrepreneurship centres as engines for innovation and economic development in Nigeria.
This workshop, supported by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), reflects AFIT’s growing commitment to embedding entrepreneurship as a core pillar of national development. With the theme “Advancing Entrepreneurship: Strengthening Skills, Systems, and Leadership Impact,” the programme aimed to build the capacity of AFIT staff to drive innovation, job creation, and economic resilience. The initiative aligns with the national policy on education, emphasizing the integration of entrepreneurial training into higher education. By equipping staff with the knowledge to develop practical, innovation-driven curricula and mentor students effectively, AFIT is not only addressing the challenge of graduate unemployment but also reinforcing its role in shaping a workforce capable of sustaining long-term socio-economic transformation.
During his presentation, Engr. Mustapha Habu Ringim highlighted a key issue he believes must be urgently addressed in Nigeria’s higher education system — the disconnect between Entrepreneurship Education and Entrepreneurship Development. He explained that while many Nigerian universities include entrepreneurship as a general studies course, these programs often remain theoretical and fail to address the practical realities of the labour market. According to him, this approach does little to equip students with the hands-on skills and entrepreneurial mindset needed to create or sustain viable businesses. Engr. Ringim stressed the need for a paradigm shift — from generic, lecture-based models to competency-based entrepreneurship development frameworks. He emphasized that to bridge this gap, curricula must be aligned with the National Occupational Standards (NOS) under the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) developed by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). By doing so, he argued, institutions can better prepare graduates with job-ready competencies, real-world problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to drive innovation, self-employment, and inclusive economic growth across Nigeria.
