In a groundbreaking event to promote inclusivity and innovation, ENGAUSA GLOBAL TECH HUB hosted an inspiring Girls in ICT Day as part of its STEM Week celebration, bringing together young female students from public and private schools in Kano. The event was conducted in collaboration with the Technology Incubation Centre, Kano (under the National Board for Technology Incubation), High Tech Centre for Nigerian Women and Youths (HTCWY), Depend Hub Enterprise, Sparklab Creativity and Innovation Hub.
Students from selected public and private schools in Kano including Mairo Tijjani Girls Science and Technical College, ASHA International Model School, and Intercontinental School actively participated in a series of hands-on sessions and mentorship activities designed to ignite their passion for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM).
The program offered career guidance and introductory courses in Graphic Design, Coding, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Robotics, equipping participants with practical digital skills vital for the evolving world of work. In the coding and robotics sessions, the girls learned the basics of how machines can be programmed to perform tasks, building problem-solving skills and encouraging logical thinking. They engaged in simple but exciting robotic experiments that brought the concept of automation and smart technologies to life many expressing a newfound curiosity for how technology shapes our everyday world.
One of the standout sessions was led by teenage tech prodigy Abdullahi Mustapha, CEO of Good Work Global, who introduced the participants to AI-powered graphic design tools. His real-time demonstrations sparked interest and inspired many of the girls to consider graphic design as a future career. Abdullahi, a rising star in the tech space, is a celebrated logo design expert who was mentored through ENGAUSA HUB’s Catch Them Young program, which is usually conducted during vacation periods. His achievements strongly illustrated that the modern tech ecosystem is inclusive of both age and gender, offering opportunities for anyone with talent and passion.
Joining him was Aisha Muhammad Sa’id, a freelance graphic designer and tutor at ENGAUSA HUB, who also facilitated practical sessions on digital creativity. As a female professional in the field, her presence and teaching provided an additional layer of encouragement to the participants, especially in showing them that women, too, are excelling and leading in creative tech careers. Her guidance helped the girls visualize clear pathways from learning to professional practice.
The Girls in ICT event at ENGAUSA HUB reflects the hub’s unwavering commitment to inclusive digital empowerment, capacity-building, and gender balance in the tech ecosystem. By mentoring and equipping young girls with emerging skills, the initiative is setting a powerful foundation for a diverse and innovative workforce that can drive sustainable development in Northern Nigeria and beyond.
